What’s your favorite thing about being an engineer?
Every day is different. Also, having the ability to solve complex problems that positively affect everyday people.

What do you like most about working in the concrete pipe industry?
Developing relationships with engineers and contractors from incredibly diverse backgrounds.

How did you get started in the industry?
Before I came to this industry, I was a consultant for about 12 years, which included working with many heavy civil construction contractors on large design-build roadway projects. I met a sales manager for Rinker Materials through an ASCE golf league and just continued that relationship, which led to my current employment. I have now been in the concrete pipe industry for 3.5 years.

What’s one lesson you’ve learned in this industry that’s stuck with you?
Don’t be afraid to ask a question. Chances are, someone else is thinking the same thing.

What’s your most memorable project?
When I worked as a consultant, I was involved in the rehabilitation of many public schools. Once, I was able to work on the site design of the middle school I attended as a child. It was an awesome experience to come full circle, from school to design to construction and back to that school again.

If you were talking to a group of high school girls, what would you say to encourage them to become an engineer?
Being a civil engineer allows you to work in so many different areas of engineering and construction. It’s an industry that affects every single person every single day. I am proud to say I have worked on projects big and small that had huge impacts in the community I live, which is incredibly rewarding. Driving by a project and seeing my company’s pipe being installed is pretty cool!
