On June 13, Forterra hosted 25 representatives of the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) at its Marshalltown production facility.  Staffs of the Materials, Construction, and Bridges & Structures offices represented IDOT. The Tour covered production of dry cast structures, dry cast pipe, dry cast boxes, and wet cast structures, along with material testing and quality control. A three-edge bearing test on a 60-inch diameter class 3 RCP concluded the tour.

The plant tour was coordinated through the plant manager, Ty Larsen, and Dan Miner, who is with IDOT’s District One Materials Office.  This is a great example that all employees are valuable members of the concrete pipe industry’s marketing group.

This is a demonstration of the comparative flammability of polypropylene pipe (PP), reinforced concrete pipe (RCP), and high density polyethylene pipe (HDPE). Dry hay is ignited in three 18 in. by 18 in. pipes and allowed to burn. This is an unedited test conducted on October 21, 2015.
