National Concrete Pipe Week was celebrated August 20 through 26. Arkansas concrete pipe producing companies celebrated by thanking those who make the industry successful with a visit to Governor Hutchinson’s office in the State Capitol.
Public agencies and private companies met at Arkansas’ State Capitol to recognize the contributions of the concrete pipe industry to the State of Arkansas. They met Governor Asa Hutchinson who earlier in the month signed a Proclamation declaring August 20-26 as Concrete Pipe Week in Arkansas. Professionals from the transportation industry talked to Governor Hutchinson about the recent legislative session where they helped to defeat Senate Bill 322 and HB 2268 in the City, County and Local Affairs Committee.
They discussed the importance that ARDOT projects play in the success of the concrete pipe industry. ARDOT’s pipe selection process recognizes the benefits of concrete pipe under the roadways in Arkansas. John Burton (Pulaski County Public Works Department) stated that Pulaski County specifies concrete pipe under their roadways because it is the best product available.
Producing members in attendance were Pat Dry and Don Conrad (Forterra) and Jim Scurlock (Scurlock Industries). Associate members in attendance were Nate Parker (Granite Mountain Quarry) and Darren Glenn (Mid American Manufacturing). Public agency personnel in attendance were Michael Benson (ARDOT), John Burton (Pulaski County Public Works Department) and Dan Beranek (McClelland Engineers).
